Megaworld forms new hospitality group as it targets 12,000 hotel rooms by 2032

Megaworld Corp has created Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts to consolidate its hotel portfolio as the developer targets nearly 12,000 rooms by 2032. The restructuring includes two sub-groups and key appointments as the company expands in Palawan, Ilocos Norte and Iloilo.

MEGAWORLD CORP has created a new hospitality group to consolidate its growing hotel business as the property developer targets nearly 12,000 rooms by 2032.

The new Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR) will oversee the company’s hotel portfolio through two groups: Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR) and Megaworld Global Hospitality (MGH).

“One of our biggest contributions to nation-building is to help make our tourism industry more vibrant and attractive, especially to foreign visitors. To support this goal of helping boost our country’s tourism, we are making this bold move of expanding our hospitality organization with established veterans and innovators in the global hotels and leisure industry,” Megaworld President and Chief Executive Officer Lourdes Gutierrez Alfonso said in a statement on Wednesday.

MHR will manage Megaworld’s hotel developments in Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas, and Cebu. MGH will handle Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, which Megaworld identifies as its biggest hotel property, as well as new hotel properties in Palawan and three hotels in Iloilo: Courtyard by Marriott, Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, and Belmont Hotel Iloilo.

The restructuring comes as Megaworld plans to expand its hotel portfolio to nearly 12,000 rooms by 2032, with new developments in tourism destinations such as Palawan and Ilocos Norte over the next five to seven years. The company said the portfolio will include both its homegrown hotel brands and international brands.

Megaworld has appointed Socrates Alvaro as managing director of MHR and Anna Vergara as managing director of MGH. Mr Alvaro has held senior leadership positions within Megaworld Hotels & Resorts and has worked in hotel markets including the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, the Maldives, and Thailand. Ms Vergara spent more than 32 years with Marriott International.

For the first half of 2026, Megaworld’s hospitality segment posted P3.1 billion in revenue, up 11% from the same period a year earlier, making it the company’s fastest-growing recurring-income segment. The company recently opened the 405-room Belmont Hotel Iloilo, its third hotel within the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park, bringing Megaworld’s hotel room inventory in Iloilo to nearly 1,000 rooms.
