About APACrealty
APACrealty covers property and real estate in Singapore and across the Asia-Pacific: residential and commercial transactions, government land sales, REITs and capital markets, and the official data releases that set the market's direction.
What we cover
Singapore is the home market. Beyond it we follow the region the capital moves around: Hong Kong and mainland China, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and India. A story about a property market outside the Asia-Pacific is out of scope however significant it is elsewhere, which is why you will not find UK housebuilder results or US mortgage rates here.
Our sections are Residential, Commercial, Capital Markets, Market Data and Analysis.
Where the material comes from, and how we say so
Our reporting has two distinct origins, and every article on this site tells you which one it has.
Our own reports from official data. The Market Data section is written by our data desk from datasets published by Singapore government agencies on data.gov.sg, made available under the Singapore Open Data Licence. Every figure in those reports is calculated by us from the published transactions, and each report names the dataset it used and the period it covers, so any number in it can be checked against the source. These stories carry an outlined Our data tag.
Reports drawn from published sources. Most of our news stories are written from material that is already public: company and exchange announcements, agency and developer releases, regulators' statements, official data, and reports carried by other outlets. We write them in our own words and keep the figures as published; we do not reproduce another publication's text.
Where a fact, figure or forecast comes from a named organisation, that organisation is named in the story itself, so a reader can see whose claim it is. An index compiled by a property agency is always identified as that agency's, and never as an official figure.
We are an independent publication. We are not affiliated with, and our reports are not endorsed by, any government agency, developer, agency or REIT manager mentioned on this site.
How the stories are produced
APACrealty is a small desk with a narrow remit. Stories are written from the sources described above to our editorial policy, which sets what may and may not appear in a story — chiefly that we do not introduce a figure, date, quotation or allegation that is not in the source material, and that we do not offer forecasts or advice.
For the market reports the standard is stricter still: every statistic is computed from the full dataset rather than quoted from a summary, and each report is checked figure by figure against those computed values before it is published. A report containing a number we cannot reproduce from the data is discarded rather than corrected.
Our bylines are desks rather than named reporters: each desk covers a defined beat and the byline names the desk that produced the story, with an address that reaches the people who run it.
