PETALING JAYA (Oct 13): S P Setia Bhd has welcomed Budget 2027's measures to support homeownership and green investment, saying the continued focus on Johor complements its presence in the state and expansion into industrial development.

In a statement on Tuesday (Oct 13), S P Setia president and CEO Datuk Zaini Yusoff commended the budget's focus on homeownership, infrastructure and investment-led growth. "The extension of the stamp duty exemption to homes priced up to RM750,000 is a meaningful measure to support homebuyers and residential demand," he said.

The group also welcomed the continued emphasis on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and improvements in regional connectivity. It said continued support through the Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) aligned with its plans for Setia Fontaines Industrial Park as an upcoming green industrial park.

"Together with the momentum in Johor and the JS-SEZ, these initiatives support our broader strategy to grow S P Setia's industrial platform alongside our core township business," the group said.

On construction, the developer welcomed the reintroduction of the variation-of-price (VOP) mechanism, saying it would help the industry manage fluctuations in key inputs such as diesel and bitumen and provide greater certainty to contractors. It said continued attention to construction and housing development costs was important to keep quality homes accessible to Malaysians.

Improving productivity, procurement efficiency and overall delivery costs would be key to balancing affordability with a sustainable property and construction sector, it added. S P Setia also supported the government's longer-term objective of increasing affordable housing supply under the 13th Malaysia Plan, saying public-private collaboration could help deliver quality, sustainable and well-connected communities.
