Mumbai property registrations hit 14-year August high of 12,503 units in 2026: Knight Frank

Mumbai recorded 12,503 property registrations in August 2026, an 11% year-on-year increase and the highest for the month in 14 years, according to Knight Frank India. Stamp duty collections rose 12% to ₹1,123 crore, though both metrics declined from July 2026.

Mumbai city, under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) jurisdiction, is projected to record 12,503 property registrations in August 2026, the highest for the month in 14 years, according to Knight Frank India. The figure represents an 11% year-on-year increase from 11,230 registrations in August 2025.

Stamp duty collections for the month are expected to reach ₹1,123 crore, up 12% year-on-year from ₹1,000 crore in August 2025. However, on a month-on-month basis, registrations declined 10% from 13,824 units in July 2026, while stamp duty collections fell 11% from ₹1,255 crore in the previous month.

Shishir Baijal, international partner, chairman and managing director of Knight Frank India, said Mumbai's residential market continues to see healthy demand. “While registration and stamp duty collections have moderated sequentially, their strong YoY growth underscores the continued strength and resilience of underlying housing demand,” he said.
