Senator Tulfo urges swift passage of MIND Act to end substandard infrastructure wastage

SENATOR Erwin T. Tulfo pushed for the swift passage of the Masterplan for Infrastructure and National Development (MIND) Act to curb fund wastage in substandard projects amid deliberations on the proposed 2027 national budget.

Mr Tulfo said the successive rains have proven which among the existing infrastructure are substandard due to damaged roads and bridges, noting that some projects tend to be unfinished due to lack of continuation in funding. “We are wasting public funds on public infrastructure projects that the public does not benefit from. All of this is due solely to negligence in planning,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

He stressed that there should be continuity and longevity in the construction of infrastructure projects, noting that plans should also be climate resilient. The MIND Act is among the administration’s Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council’s priority measures.

The measure is still pending before the Senate Committee on Economic Affairs, while its counterpart bills at the House of Representatives are also pending with the House Committee on Public Works and Highways.
