Selangor to pilot humanoid robots, autonomous vehicles under new Sidec collaborations
Selangor will host pilot projects for humanoid robots, autonomous vehicles and industrial robotics under collaborations signed at AiSEM@Selangor 2026 on Oct 15. The initiatives, led by Sidec and industry players, aim to boost local capabilities and talent in robotics and autonomous technologies.
KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 15): Selangor is set to host pilot projects involving humanoid robots, autonomous vehicles and industrial robotics following a series of collaborations signed at AiSEM@Selangor 2026 on Oct 15. The collaborations, involving the Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) and industry players, aim to accelerate the adoption of robotics and autonomous technologies, develop local capabilities and train Malaysian talent.
Among the initiatives, Work-E Robotics plans to establish a presence in Selangor and pilot its humanoid robots, autonomous surveillance and inspection platforms, and service robots. Autonomous vehicle technology company eMooVit will use Selangor as a base to pilot its Level 4 autonomous vehicle software and build a local team, while Aliran Tenaga will conduct pilot projects involving autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), collaborative robots and Industry 4.0 solutions. NCT World plans to establish NCT Smart Industrial Park as an assembly base for robotics and automation manufacturers, alongside a robotics exhibition hub.
Under the collaborations, Sidec will facilitate regulatory engagement, funding and technology adoption, while its partners undertake pilot projects and talent development. The summit was officially launched by Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong, with Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor) CEO Datuk Saipolyazan M Yusop in attendance at the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur.
Liew said Malaysia commands about 13 per cent of the world's chip assembly, packaging and testing, but the backend segment captures only about 6 per cent of the industry's value added, while chip design and integrated device manufacturers capture 57 per cent. He cited projections by World Semiconductor Trade Statistics that the global semiconductor market would exceed US$1.5 trillion (RM6.12 trillion) this year and reach about US$2 trillion in 2027. Liew said Selangor was aligning its semiconductor and artificial intelligence strategies to support higher-value industries and locally developed technologies.
