GLP has begun developing a 200MW hyperscale data centre campus near Guangzhou with an expected investment of RMB 4 billion (S$595.6 million), the developer and fund manager announced earlier this month. The purpose-built campus in Foshan, about a one-hour drive from the Guangdong provincial capital, will serve the AI training and advanced compute requirements of a leading internet and cloud services company, which is expanding its partnership with GLP, the company said in a statement.

“AI is creating one of the most significant infrastructure opportunities of the next decade and the scale of this new campus validates our strategy of building a differentiated digital infrastructure platform for the AI era,” said Gavin Shen, president of digital infrastructure at GLP China. GLP, which counts tech heavyweights Alibaba and Tencent among its partners, expects the project to rank among the largest data centre projects in southern China and Hong Kong.

Located in Xiqiao Town in southwestern Foshan’s Nanhai District, GLP is building the campus within the 200,000 square metre (2.2 million square foot) development formerly known as Tenglong Greater Bay Area Data Centre, with the initial 57,000 square metre phase of that project having structurally topped out in 2022. Work for the first phase of GLP’s Foshan campus, which includes 40MW of IT capacity, is now in progress, with the campus planned to support up to 200MW at full build-out.

GLP is developing the campus using modular construction, which can enable delivery in as fast as four months. The project can support liquid-cooled server racks consuming up to 140 kilowatts each and also has renewable energy capabilities, GLP said. The company acquired the Tenglong Greater Bay Area Data Centre project along with a digital infrastructure park in Chongqing from Beijing-based Tenglong Holdings Group for S$419 million in 2023, according to GLP’s 2023 interim results filed with the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

The Foshan facility will add to a GLP data centre business that already has about 20 facilities with a total capacity of 1.4 gigawatts in China, with the company reporting a 32 per cent increase in revenue from that mainland segment in 2025. With GLP having completed and handed over a pair of data centres to Alibaba Cloud last year, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority agreed to invest S$1.5 billion to become a strategic partner in the group in August 2025, building on existing fund-level cooperation.

Also in August last year, Zhejiang State-owned Assets Investment, backed by the Zhejiang provincial government, invested RMB 2.5 billion (S$349.5 million) to take a strategic stake in GLP’s data centre business. The Wall Street Journal reported in June that GLP is planning to raise up to S$3 billion via an initial public offering in Hong Kong, with the listing targeted for the fourth quarter of this year. The company has declined to comment on the IPO plan.
