The Department of Tourism (DoT), in partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), has launched the Discover the Visayas, #FlyViaCebu campaign. The initiative was formalised through a memorandum of understanding among the three parties.
Under the campaign, the DoT, PCCI through the Visayas Island-Chambers Tourism Alliance, and MCIA aim to encourage travellers to explore the Visayas region, beginning with Lapu-Lapu, Panglao, Boracay, Siquijor, Guimaras, and Biliran. The programme also seeks to establish Cebu as a gateway for multi-island travel.
To facilitate connections, MCIA's transfer app, CEB Connects, allows passengers to link to and from the airport's 28 domestic and 13 international destinations. Domestic-to-domestic connections require a minimum connection time of 35 minutes, while domestic-to-international and international-to-domestic connections have a minimum connection time of 60 minutes. Baggage will be automatically transferred to the connecting flight.
