ByteDance is close to an agreement with MediaTek to secure semiconductors for its data centre operations, according to a Bloomberg News report on 15 Oct. The deal would bolster ByteDance's supply of chips for its expanding data centre footprint.
ByteDance is close to an agreement with MediaTek to secure semiconductors for its data centre operations, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The deal would give the Chinese technology giant a stable supply of chips for its data centres, which support its portfolio of apps and cloud services. MediaTek, a Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company, would supply the processors under the potential agreement.
Neither ByteDance nor MediaTek has publicly confirmed the report, and Reuters could not immediately verify it.
The reported talks come amid a global race for advanced chips as tech companies expand artificial intelligence and cloud computing capabilities. ByteDance, the parent company of video app TikTok, has been investing heavily in data centre infrastructure to support its services.
