OPmobility to buy Hyundai Mobis' lighting unit for 600 billion won

The transaction will see OPmobility take over Hyundai Mobis' automotive lighting operations, which supply headlamps, rear lamps and other lighting systems to global carmakers. The French firm said the acquisition will strengthen its position in the vehicle lighting segment and broaden its product portfolio for original equipment manufacturers.

Hyundai Mobis, the parts-making affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, has been divesting non-core assets to focus on electrification, autonomous driving and other future mobility technologies. The lighting unit's enterprise value of 600 billion won implies a multiple of about 0.4 times its annual revenue, according to a person familiar with the matter, though this could not be independently verified.

The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. OPmobility said it will fund the purchase through existing cash and debt facilities.

The acquisition marks the latest consolidation in the global automotive supplier industry, as parts makers scale up to meet demand for electric vehicles and advanced driver-assistance systems. The lighting business employs about 3,000 people across plants in South Korea, China, India and Mexico, according to OPmobility's statement.
