Nestlé Philippines Inc. has inaugurated a P500 million expansion of its Chuckie chocolate drink factory in Tanauan City, Batangas, adding a new filling line that will boost annual production by about 144 million packs. The facility is located within the First Philippine Industrial Park, a nearly 600-hectare special economic zone.
Mauricio Alarcón, chairman and CEO of Nestlé Philippines, said during the inauguration on Thursday that the investment is a strong expression of confidence in local manufacturing and in the continued growth of Chuckie in the country. Amid domestic and global economic pressures, mainly driven by the Middle East war, the company noted that manufacturing locally reduces vulnerability to global supply chain disruptions while creating jobs and supporting the local economy.
Veronica Carmen V. Cruz, business executive officer for beverages and confectionery at Nestlé Philippines, said the pressures the company is seeing actually reinforce why it is investing. She said that when times are tough, families need affordable, quality nutrition the most, so there is all the more reason to invest and ensure products remain available. She added that Chuckie is a key part of Nestlé’s beverage portfolio and that with more capacity, the company can serve more households while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Tanauan City Mayor Nelson “Sonny” P. Collantes said the expansion could provide more jobs and benefit several stakeholders in the city. He noted that it means more opportunities for workers, local businesses and suppliers, as well as more stable sources of income for families and young Tanaueños who could build their careers and future in the city.
Apart from the Tanauan factory, Nestlé Philippines operates four other local factories in Cabuyao, Lipa, Cagayan de Oro and Pulilan.
