Manila Water completes P5.7-billion submarine pipeline for East Bay project
Manila Water Co., Inc. has completed a P5.7-billion submarine transmission system for its East Bay Phase 2 project. The 31.5-kilometer pipeline, consisting of two underwater segments, will carry up to 200 million litres per day of treated water from Laguna to Taguig City.
EAST ZONE concessionaire Manila Water Co., Inc. said it has completed a P5.7-billion submarine transmission system that will carry treated water from its East Bay Water Treatment Plant in Pakil, Laguna, to Taguig City. In a statement on Wednesday, the company said the system consists of 1,200-millimeter-diameter submarine transmission lines spanning about 31.5 kilometers underwater.
The pipeline is designed to convey up to 200 million litres per day of treated water from the East Bay Water Treatment Plant Phase 2 in Pakil. The system is composed of two segments: the Central Bay section, which runs 13.2 kilometers from Jala-Jala, Rizal, to the Binangonan Peninsula, and the West Bay section, which extends 18.3 kilometers from the Binangonan Peninsula to an onshore landing point in Taguig City.
Manila Water said the completed transmission lines form part of the East Bay Phase 2 project and are intended to improve system reliability and operational flexibility. “The submarine transmission lines are a vital component of the East Bay Phase 2 project, serving as the critical link that will enable treated water from Laguna Lake to reach communities across our service area,” Manila Water Corporate Communications Head Dittie Galang said.
“Their completion brings us closer to realizing additional water supply that will help strengthen long-term water security for our customers, particularly as the country prepares for the potential impacts of a strong El Niño event in 2027,” she added. Manila Water serves the east zone of Metro Manila, covering parts of Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Mandaluyong, San Juan, portions of Quezon City and Manila, and several towns in Rizal province.
