Globe Telecom expands hybrid and electric vehicle fleet to 570 units

GLOBE TELECOM, INC. has expanded its hybrid and electric vehicle fleet to about 570 units as of August as part of its efforts to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The Ayala-led telecommunications company said its fleet includes 135 leased hybrid vehicles used for field sales and operations. Globe is also pursuing a previously announced plan to transition nearly 500 field sales service vehicles to hybrid or fully electric models by 2028.

The company said it has installed electric vehicle charging stations in five of its buildings, with plans to expand charging infrastructure to more facilities.

“We continue to embed climate action into the way we invest and operate because building more resilient operations goes hand in hand with reducing our environmental impact,” Globe Vice-President for Supply Chain Jerry P. Cabiles said in a media release over the weekend.

Globe said the investments are intended to improve resource efficiency and reduce its reliance on conventional fuel-powered transportation. The company is also incorporating climate considerations into its investment decisions through a shadow internal carbon price, which assigns a notional cost to greenhouse gas emissions when evaluating projects.

The mechanism allows Globe to consider the potential environmental impact of its investments and prioritize energy-efficient technologies. Globe said these initiatives form part of its broader climate strategy, which includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

“By embedding energy efficiency into its operations and investment decisions, the company continues to pursue practical measures that support business sustainability while contributing to the country’s transition toward a lower-carbon economy,” it said.
