Bain Capital hires ex-Blackstone MD Koskinen; CapitaLand Development names Vietnam CEO

Bain Capital has hired former Blackstone managing director Matt Koskinen to lead its Australia and New Zealand real estate strategy, while CapitaLand Development has named Tze Wooi Tan as CEO of its Vietnam business. HSBC group CFO Pam Kaur will step down by the bank's 2027 annual meeting.

Former Blackstone executive Matt Koskinen has joined Bain Capital as a managing director leading the firm's real estate strategy in Australia and New Zealand, according to his LinkedIn profile. The move, first reported by the Australian Financial Review last October, ends Koskinen's eight-and-a-half-year tenure at Blackstone, where he also served as managing director. Earlier in his career, he worked in real estate investment banking at Goldman Sachs, real estate equity research at Macquarie Group, and real estate asset management at abrdn across Toronto and Sydney.

CapitaLand Development has appointed Tze Wooi Tan as chief executive of its Vietnam business, according to a LinkedIn update. Tan moves from his role as group chief risk officer at CapitaLand Investment, a position he took on last year after nearly eight years as chief executive of CapitaLand China Trust Management. He joined the CapitaLand group in 2005 in retail roles across CapitaRetail China Trust and CapitaMalls Asia, and earlier worked in real estate banking at Standard Chartered Bank. CapitaLand Development's Vietnam portfolio spans Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where it recently acquired a S$1 billion mixed-use site.

HSBC has announced that group chief financial officer Pam Kaur will step down and leave the board by the bank's 2027 annual meeting, according to a filing with the Hong Kong stock exchange. Kaur, who joined HSBC in 2013 and has held roles in internal audit, risk and compliance, and finance, became group CFO two years ago. She will move into an advisory role supporting chief executive Georges Elhedery through 2028 to ensure a smooth transition, while the board has begun searching for her successor. HSBC is Hong Kong's largest lender, with US$32 billion of commercial real estate loans in the territory.

In other moves, Prudential Hong Kong has hired Ben Tse as director for private asset investment, according to his LinkedIn profile. Tse spent more than five years at reinsurer Peak Re, most recently as senior vice president leading alternative investments across private credit, real estate, private equity and infrastructure, and earlier worked at student housing operator GSA and Savills Investment Management in Hong Kong.

Tata Realty and Infrastructure has named Gaurav Jain as managing director and chief executive effective 1 October, according to a statement posted on X. Jain, whose role includes managing Tata Housing Development, succeeds Sanjay Dutt, who steps down after eight years leading the developer. Jain joins from Aditya Birla Group's Birla Estates, where he has been deputy chief executive since 2024, and earlier held leadership roles at Godrej Properties, Mahindra Lifespace Developers and Unitech Group.

Central China Real Estate's chief executive, Yang Mingyao, has resigned effective 4 September, citing family reasons and a wish to devote more time to other business commitments, according to a filing with the Hong Kong stock exchange. Yang joined the developer as vice president in 2018, rose to general manager of operations in 2020 and became chief executive in February 2022. The board, chaired by Wu Po Sum, thanked Yang and said it is searching for a successor.

Sun Hung Kai Properties has hired Chris Chong as head of retail management strategy and luxury brands, according to a LinkedIn announcement. Chong joins from LVMH, where he spent two years as group president for South and Southeast Asia and Oceania, and earlier served as chief executive of retail and workspace at CapitaLand, sitting on the boards of Jewel Changi Airport and ION Orchard. Desmos has also hired Mark Suchy as senior advisor for real estate and debt advisory, based in Bangkok, according to a LinkedIn announcement. Suchy moves from Core Capital Asia, the Shanghai investment advisory boutique he launched in 2016, and has more than 23 years of experience in Asian real estate and capital markets.
