Asia United Bank Corp. (AUB) posted a net income of P9.4 billion in the first nine months of 2026, nearly flat year on year, up by 0.3 per cent from the previous year. The result was supported by strong growth in its core lending and deposit franchises, AUB said in a disclosure to the stock exchange on Thursday.
The bank’s nine-month performance translated to a return on equity of 18 per cent and a return on assets of 2.9 per cent. Its financial statement was unavailable as of press time.
Net interest income climbed by 14.5 per cent year on year to P15.5 billion at end-September, driven by steady loan growth and a 10.2 per cent drop in interest expenses. AUB said net interest margin widened to 5.1 per cent, reflecting effective asset-liability management amidst prevailing macroeconomic shifts.
Fee-based income from consumer touchpoints and digital platforms such as HelloMoney, AUB PayMate, credit cards, and branch transactions rose by 14.5 per cent year on year to P1.5 billion for the first nine months. Total other operating income was at P2.5 billion, even as it booked a net loss of P11.8 billion from trading and securities movements versus a P1.37-billion gain in the same period a year ago.
The bank’s operating expenses grew by 7.2 per cent to P6.1 billion in the nine months ended September, resulting in a cost-to-income ratio of 33.1 per cent. AUB said it continues to direct strategic investments toward digital transformation while enforcing strict operational discipline.
AUB’s gross loans expanded by 13.8 per cent to P292.3 billion at end-September, supported by healthy demand from both corporate and consumer borrowers. Asset quality remained healthy with a nonperforming loan (NPL) ratio of 0.56 per cent, while NPL coverage was at 95 per cent. On the funding side, deposit liabilities increased by 2.5 per cent to P344.7 billion, 76 per cent of which were low-cost current and savings account (CASA) deposits.
Total assets stood at P433.4 billion as of September, growing by 3.9 per cent year on year. Total equity was at P73.3 billion, climbing by 11.6 per cent. It ended the period with a capital adequacy ratio of 19.12 per cent and a common equity Tier 1 ratio of 18.29 per cent. AUB President Manuel A. Gomez said: “With a record P9.4-billion net income and recent stockholder approval to quintuple our capital base to P72.5 billion, AUB enters the coming year from a position of profound strength. However, we remain vigilant toward emerging market headwinds and inflationary pressures.”
