KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 20): Autonomous Logistic Solutions Sdn Bhd (ALS) has launched its Level 4 (L4) driverless RoboVan for public-road operations in Malaysia, which the company described as the first deployment of a fully driverless vehicle by a Malaysian company on public roads with a valid licence plate. The launch took place at Transport Expo Asia (TXA) 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), witnessed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, ALS managing director Alan Chong, Zelostech Singapore managing director Terry Zhou, Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping, and Cyberview Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad.

The RoboVan will undergo a six-month public-road trial along Cyberjaya's 22km Malaysia Autonomous Vehicle (MyAV) testing route under mixed-traffic conditions. During the trial, ALS will monitor the vehicle's autonomous driving performance, operating hours, distance travelled, trips completed, system interventions and other key performance indicators. The data collected will support the development of Malaysia's autonomous vehicle ecosystem and inform preparations for the commercial deployment of autonomous logistics.

The launch follows a series of testing milestones by ALS. These began with private-compound trials with Pos Malaysia in January 2026, followed by a live demonstration in Shah Alam in June 2026. In July 2026, ALS established Malaysia's first dedicated Remote Operations Centre (ROC) for autonomous logistics in Cyberjaya. Within its approved Operational Design Domain (ODD), the RoboVan performs the entire driving task without a driver or passenger onboard, under remote supervision from the ROC.

The RoboVan uses technology developed by Zelostech, with ALS as its strategic Malaysian partner responsible for localising the technology and managing operations. ALS managing director Alan Chong said the company is proud to reach this milestone and bring fully autonomous vehicles onto public roads, building the foundation for autonomous logistics in Malaysia and the region.

The six-month trial will run along Cyberjaya's 22km Malaysia Autonomous Vehicle (MyAV) testing route, which was introduced by Cyberview in 2020 with an initial length of 7km and extended by 15km in 2025. The route passes through business districts, educational institutions, MRT stations, commercial centres, intersections and pedestrian crossings. Cyberview chief executive officer Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad said the deployment showcases the capability of local innovators and the importance of a dedicated hub for testing advanced technologies in real-world conditions.

ALS will monitor the vehicle's autonomous driving performance, operating hours, distance travelled, trips completed, system interventions and other key performance indicators during the trial. The company established Malaysia's first dedicated Remote Operations Centre for autonomous logistics in Cyberjaya in July 2026, which will supervise the RoboVan through live video feeds, vehicle telemetry, route status and system diagnostics. The trial follows regulatory approvals under Malaysia's autonomous vehicle framework, with engagement involving the Ministry of Transport, Road Transport Department (JPJ), Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), Ministry of Digital and Futurise.

The RoboVan uses technology developed by Zelostech, with ALS serving as its strategic Malaysian partner. ALS managing director Alan Chong said the milestone shows what local companies can achieve in autonomous technology. The Cyberjaya route passes through business districts, educational institutions, MRT stations, commercial centres, intersections and pedestrian crossings. Cyberview, Cyberjaya's tech hub developer, introduced the MyAV testing route in 2020 with an initial length of 7km, and added 15km in 2025 to extend the network to 22km.
